Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary

Thane Creek was declared as Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) in 2004 owing to its ecological, faunal, floral, geomorphological, natural or zoological significance, species was then declared as Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary through a notification dated 06th Aug 2015. The area of Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary lies at the West side of the creek between the Airoli and Vashi Bridge. Home to thousands of migratory Flamingos and 205 other species of birds. Extensive mudflats formed along the banks of the creek are important for the birds which feed on brine shrimp and blue green algae.
